Weather in Tanzania – Bens Africa Safaris

Tanzania’s weather is generally warm and pleasant throughout the year, making it one of the best safari destinations in Africa. However, conditions vary depending on the season and the region you visit, so it’s important to know what to expect before your trip.

The dry season (June to October) is the most popular time for safaris. Days are sunny with clear skies, making it perfect for game drives as wildlife gathers around rivers and waterholes. This season is also the best for witnessing the Great Migration in the Serengeti.

The short rains (November to December) bring light showers, usually in the late afternoon, without disrupting travel plans. This season transforms the landscapes into lush green scenery and is excellent for birdwatching. It’s also less crowded, offering a more peaceful safari experience.

From January to February, Tanzania experiences a warm period with little rain, often called the “calving season” in the Serengeti. This is when thousands of wildebeest give birth, attracting predators and offering incredible wildlife action.

The long rains (March to May) bring heavier rainfall, especially in coastal and highland areas. While some lodges close during this period, safaris are still possible and often more affordable. The landscapes are vibrant, and photographers love the dramatic skies and rich colors.
